Australia China Sponge Cities Consortium

The Australia China Sponge City Consortium is a joint venture business formed in 2016 to bring together like minded professionals with a passion for innovative project delivery in the urban environment. The consortium comprises parent organisations: Syntec Global, Hassell, Australian Water Environments, Aqueon, Alano Water and Water Data Services.

Our consortium includes all of the skills required to design and deliver a fully integrated approach to water management programs in urban developments such as Sponge City.

We take a whole of catchment system approach, and have learnt from experience that this is crucial for success.

A successful system starts with a combination of city planning, urban design and understanding the nature of the system. It then requires an understanding of the interaction of all of the elements, and potential management solutions, from modest streetside rain gardens that clean the initial runoff from roads through to major pieces of infrastructure such as flood control dams and wetland treatment. It requires maintenance and ongoing monitoring of system performance to ensure that all elements continue to operate effectively over decades.
